 CARPET REPAIR SERVICES

Below is some brief information on some of the techniques that can be used to solve your particular problem.

RE-STRETCHING

Almost all carpets that are not of the glue-down variety will eventually stretch and as this occurs ripples will begin to form. These ripples will gradually grow larger and become a tripping risk, as well as a generally ugly sight to behold.

How long it takes for this to happen depends on the quality of the carpet, the amount of traffic over the carpet and how well it was installed. These days new carpets are usually layed without the use of power stretchers - this means that the carpets are not layed with anywhere near the tension they used to be when power stretchers were the norm. Result: Ripples develop much earlier than they used to in the "old days".

Wherever possible, re-stretching should be done using a Power Stretcher - whilst a more time consuming technique this method is a long-term solution. Knee kicking is a short-term solution because it cannot produce sufficient tension in the re-stretched carpet to prevent re-rippling for anything but the short-term.

If left too long the ripples will eventually fold over. This is when permanent damage begins and the backing begins to lose it's strength making it less able to take the strain of re-stretching. Even so, it is often possible to re-stretch folded carpet if it hasn't lost too much integrity.

Having said that, you should always aim to have carpets stretched BEFORE any ripples fold over.

Re-stretching can add many years to the life of your carpet and is SO MUCH CHEAPER than buying new carpets!

PATCHING

Accidents happen! Hot Irons get dropped and leave a burn/melt mark in you carpet! Some spills leave stains that cannot be removed. Cats can scratch at doorways and tear/fray your carpet. Pets can wee on the carpet and no matter what you do you may not be able to get the smell or stain out. These "accidents" can be cut out a professionally patched - often totally invisibly.

RE-LAYING
RAMPING
FINISHING
RE-SEAMING

Often, after some years, carpets that have not been layed with sufficient tension will come loose around the edges. This is often the 1st step to rippling. The carpet can be easily re-layed where necessary to prevent rippling.

There are a lot of bathroom renovations going on at the moment! Often when the new tiles are layed in the bathroom there is a height difference between the bathroom floor and the carpet.

Other renovations can cause height differences between hard floors and carpet.

These height differences can be corrected with some intelligent modifications under your carpet.

On the subject of renovations...walls may have been moved or removed, doorways may be moved, areas of carpet can be removed and replaced with hard floors...these sort of things can result in the need to trim and relay along a new wall, trim and relay in doorways, install edging in doorways, join a new piece of carpet to the old carpet, etc.

As carpets age, seams (where the carpet is joined in doorways, and larger rooms and hallways) can begin to fray. Whether/when this happens is dependent on the construction of the carpet, the amount of wear and the quality of the original join
